Hinterland Festival

This is the first Hinterland Festival, a chance to build on four years of fruitful association with our mentors in Hay-on-Wye, Wales, and an opportunity to forge our own path.

The word ‘hinterland’ is suggestive of something that is not merely metropolitan, something ‘beyond the pale’, mysterious, imaginative, challenging and, perhaps, just a little provocative. To reach any hinterland involves a journey. Ours is no exception. We invite you to accompany us. There will be lots of laughter, discussion, music, and a little bit of magic, along the way.

Art and poetry entries sought for upcoming Boyle Arts Festival

Calling all artists, photographers, designers and poets! Boyle Arts Festival invites you to enter two creative competitions in the run up to this summer’s spectacular festival – The Open Art Exhibition and Poetry Competition.

OPEN ART EXHIBITION SUBMISSION DETAILS 2015

Providing a forum for artists to display their work, Boyle Arts Festival Open Art Exhibition has grown to attract entries from all over Ireland, the West being particularly strongly represented. The work is selected on merit and entries have been selected from part-time, full-time and occasional artists, giving a unique blend and standard of excellence. Entrants are judged for three overall prizes, as well as a prize for ‘The Most Promising Artist Under 25′.

The overall winner will be presented with the Sue Hill Perpetual Trophy.

Entries will be accepted in any medium, to a maximum of 3 per person.

HANDING IN:

Works should be brought to Church of Ireland School, Boyle (on the same road as the Garda Station and opposite the Family Life Centre) on:

* Friday, 3rd July between 4pm & 6pm.

* Saturday, 4th July between 3pm & 5pm.

Oldbridge Country Fair takes place on Saturday 29th June at the Battle of the Boyne - Oldbridge Estate, Drogheda, Co. Meath.

A fantastic day of puppet shows, mobile farms, magicians, medieval knights, archery, dog shows and much more….

Le Cheile Festival – Pop Up Galleries

Le Cheile Arts and Music Festival, Oldcastle, Co Meath is looking for artists to exhibit at their art exhibitions over the August bank holiday weekend.
The exhibitions will be held in pop up shops around the town on the festival weekend.
Cost will be 25 euro per head with space and numbers limited.
They had great success last year so why not join in.

Solstice Festival 2013 will run from Thursday 20th-Friday 28th June, celebrating the Summer Solstice through a variety of cultural events!

The local community and tourists from near and far will enjoy this special Festival celebrating the longest day of the year. There will be something for everyone over the week with family workshops, children’s activities and performances!

Venues include Solstice Arts Centre, Tara Church and The Central.

Well done to all those to submitted work to the exhibition in St Ultan’s.

Congratulations to Jim O’Brien and his brother Michael, who had a very successful exhibition, in Navan Library.

The group welcomed a new member, Ken O’Neill, who brought along photos and spoke about his paintings.

Mette Roche gave a very interesting talk about her work and influences. She brought along notebooks and showed examples of her work on her laptop.

Solstice Arts Festival 21-24 June

Solstice Arts Festival will take place from 21-24 of June, and will be launched on the 22^nd of June at 6pm.

The Meath Arts Group Arts Trail will also be launched at this time and run for one week, until June 29^th.

Solstice has asked that a member of the Meath Arts Group exhibit a piece in the Gallery/ Café Space in order for the start and end of the trail be at the Arts Centre. Any ideas can be submitted and discussed at the Workshop on June 16^th in Solstice Arts Centre. A list of people interested in taking part in the Arts Trail was compiled. Members were advised to approach shops and estate agents to secure a venue. Installations are also welcome. Once a venue has been secured, members are asked to contact Sharon on/before the 21st of June with the details, as she needs to complete the map for the trail.

As part of the Solstice Arts festival a “Plein Air” Painting Day will take place on the Ramparts on June 24^th from 3-6pm. All are welcome. Weather permitting; this should be a great family day out.
