Submission to Solstice for 2019 show
We are putting in a submission to Solstice for a show in 2019 called Phase II – Collaboration in Context.
The theme will be a continuation of Ebb and Flow.
The work needs to fit the space, be bold and confident and lean towards the contemporary.
Large scale work fits well in Solstice.
With such a large group of artists with mixed styles and sizes, the hanging of a group exhibition is a very tricky process.
We managed to overcome this in the Toradh Gallery where work that was all 40 cm high and either 40cm or 30cm wide worked really well together.
This time we have decided not to put a restriction on size, just to ask you to make your 2D or 3D work as big as possible to suit the space.
The bigger the better. No 2D work should be framed whether the support is canvas, board or paper.
Visit the Gallery upstairs in Solstice and get a feel for the space, imagine your work in there and perhaps consider a more contemporary approach to your work as that is what Solstice arts centre is about.
As well as putting in your own work we are also asking that artists might meet up and make a piece in collaboration with someone else.
There could be any number of artists making one piece of work together.
Perhaps have a look at who lives in your area and meet up to collaborate on work. Try not to have a pre-conceived idea of what the piece will be but work through ideas and try out different
materials, again bearing in mind the exhibition space in Solstice.
We will be paying a curator to curate the exhibition so not all work is guaranteed to get into the show although we hope to have other venues to exhibit a full range of work.
The curator will solely select work and hang the show.
All work submitted must be new work made in 2018.
Please bring on-going ideas or finished work at any stage to monthly meetings on a Wednesday.
To be involved in this exhibition you will need to be a paid-up member of the Meath Arts Group in 2018 and 2019 although there is no guarantee that the submission will be accepted or that you will get your work intothe exhibition. There may be some facilitated workshops for collaboration groups if people want them. Also we hope to secure a curator early on in the process and work with the curator for a few sessions.
