International Filmmakers to Descend on Kells: 3-7 August

INTERNATIONAL FILMMAKERS TO DESCEND ON KELLS

KELLS is bracing itself for the arrival of dozens of filmmakers and guests from all over the world for the Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival which is taking place 3-7 August at Headfort House.

Over the four day event, filmmakers from as far away as Siberia, Uraguay, Canada and Australia will attend the festival with their latest films.
Over 60 of the best and latest documentary films from over 25 different countries around the world, including 32 Irish Premieres and one World Premiere, will be screened over four days.
Among this year’s special guests will be will be octogenarian farmer, Niels Stokholm and his wife Rita, whose battle to maintain their biodynamic farm in Denmark in the face of resistance from the authorities is the subject of the very beautiful Good Things Await.
Another special visitor will be Irishman, Padraig O’Malley, the subject of The Peacemaker ,who has led an extraordinary career brokering peace in areas of conflict throughout the world.

Award winning documentary film makers, Jerry Rothwell (Sour Grapes) and Taggart Siegal (Seed:The Untold Story & The Real Dirt on Farmer John) will be among the filmmakers in attendance.

Alongside an incredible range of films there will also be mouth-watering food, wine and craft beer and cider, live entertainment, and a great atmosphere in the Guth Gafa festival village in in the most stunning surroundings of Headfort House, just outside Kells.

To mark the festival’s 10th birthday, Congolese guitarist, Niwel Tsumbu and Irish multi-instrumentalist Eamonn Cagney will headline.

Together with Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA) and Sami Center For Contemporary Art (SDG), PRAKSIS has invited artists Eliza Naranjo Morse (Tewa, Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, USA) and Ivan Liotchev of International Collaborative Drawing Project (ICDP) to develop its Autumn 2016 residency.

Navan Christmas Market 2016 – Deadline 18 August

Meath County Council, have started to organise the 2016 Navan Christmas market and it is proposed to close Old Cornmarket, Navan from the 16^th December to the 23^rd December 2016.

When the road is closed an open sided marquee will be erected, to facilitate 20 – 24 stalls, under one roof. It is intended that these stalls will accommodate local artists and food producers, to sell their products in the run up to Christmas. Meath County Council will be providing the infrastructure, i.e. marquee, electricity, tables, chairs, etc. and the stalls would be provided rent free. It is also envisaged that there will be a small stage and seating where workshops/demonstrations/entertainment can be provided by the local producers/artists/craftspeople. Meath County Council will also organise carol singers and music intermittently throughout the week.

To maximise the footfall in the Christmas market, Meath County Council are proposing to provide a calendar of workshops/demonstrations/entertainment for the different days and it is proposed that the traders would contribute towards the marketing of the event in lieu of paying a rent. Ideas could include (but are not limited to):

the traders would be in a position to provide some of the workshop/demonstrations/entertainment.
some of the local artists making the area look festive.
offer prizes for daily or weekly raffles (either a shop local raffle or individual traders raffle).
have the appropriate insurance

o Employers liability – €13.5m

o Public liability – €6.5m

o Meath County Council indemnified as principal

We are seeking expressions of interest from local producers of food, arts and crafts, to become a trader for the 8 days. There will be no rent charged, however, specific criteria will be used to select the traders. These criteria are:

quality of the proposed products
variety of traders (for example, it is not envisaged that there will be a number of traders selling similar products)
there will be a refundable deposit of €800 which will be repaid if the stall is opened everyday for a period 5 hours or more. Otherwise, €100 will be deducted for everyday the stall is not opened.
the proposed workshop/demonstrations/entertainment to be provided. The quality of the proposal will have a significant effect on the success of the expression of interest.
have the appropriate insurance

o Employers liability – €13.5m

o Public liability – €6.5m

o Meath County Council indemnified as principal

2016 Annual Notice of Invitation to Apply and Update Details

Dublin City Council Arts Office established a Panel of Artists in 2015 for a period of three years. The Artists’ Panel is a vehicle for the development of artistic practice in city neighbourhoods and it offers professional development opportunities to members of the panel. The panel is open for artists in all disciplines to join throughout the year, but is advertised annually.This notice relates to year 2 of the 3 years.

Artists can apply to join by completing an Application Form. They will be assessed and shortlisted for inclusion on the panel on the basis of information received on their: qualifications, relevant experience, proven ability, financial standing, capacity to deliver and references. New applicants must complete the full form.

Dublin City Council also wishes to notify members of the existing Panel that they may amend or add to their information by completing the relevant part(s) of the Application Form.

Applications should be marked: Artists’ Panel and addressed to:
Arts Office, Dublin City Council, The LAB, Foley Street, Dublin 1.

The latest date for receipt of applications for this notice shall be 12 noon on Thursday 28th July 2016.

Reflections 2016 – Celebrating Ten Years of Meath Arts Group

This exhibition of work by Meath Arts Group, on the tenth anniversary of their inception, takes its inspiration from reflections of Irish life from 1916 to 2016. Collaboration, support and collective creativity, which has formed the foundation of the group, continues to manifest in the artist’s interpretation of this year’s theme.

Open Call for a Socially Engaged Commission at Tate Liverpool as part of the Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme funded by Creative Europe

Salary: Project budget: 40,000 GBP (approximately 50,000 EUR)

Location: Liverpool – Tate Liverpool

Tate Liverpool is fully committed to challenging the ways in which art is presented to the public and how this can evolve through working in social contexts.

To this end Tate Liverpool opens the call for collaborative socially engaged artist/s born in or resident in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Finland, Hungary or Germany, (partner countries within the Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme).

The brief is to research and deliver a new commission in Spring, 2017. The commission process will include a research period with the opportunity to develop a new work at Tate Liverpool, in collaboration with local communities and a network of established partners in the North of England and beyond.

It is envisaged that artists will work with local communities outside the institution as well as use the top floor gallery space at Tate Liverpool throughout April 2017.

Artists should have experience of working in the field of collaborative socially engaged practice, understand the ethical issues involved, be relevant to local conditions and engage a broad audience.

Individual artists or artist collectives are invited to submit draft proposals by 30 August 2016.

RTE Painting the Nation Series

Are you a talented amateur artist with a passion for painting? Do you love your oils, watercolours, pastels and acrylics – and would you like to showcase your painting talents to the nation? RTÉ is looking for the best amateur painters across the country to take part in this exciting new series that gives aspiring artists a real opportunity to make their mark.

Painting The Nation is open to a mix of painters: maybe you went to art college but ended up in another career; maybe you sell a painting or two but its’ not your main source of income; maybe you just love to paint.

This is a competition to uncover and showcase the best amateur painting talent across the island of Ireland. If painting is your passion and you think you have what it takes, we would like to hear from you.

Speaking about her new show, Pauline McLynn said: “I am really excited to be involved in Painting the Nation. We are looking for passion mixed with real talent, and I would encourage amateur painters out there who think they have what it takes to apply to be part of the show.”
