The Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival is inviting filmmakers who work in Louth and Meath to submit new work for a special ‘Made in Louth/Meath’ strand which will be part of this year’s programme.
Guth Gafa is celebrating its tenth birthday with a longer family-oriented festival at the earlier time of 3-7 August in Kells, County Meath.
More films, outdoor events and a special programme for children are just some of the highlights of this year’s biggest ever Guth Gafa festival which will return to Headfort House and Kells for the third consecutive year.
Guth Gafa will accept short or feature documentaries on any human rights, social action and environmental issue subjects, completed since January 2015 by a filmmaker(s) working in the Louth/Meath area (or a film by an Irish filmmaker that was shot in the Louth/Meath area) and that have not yet been broadcast.
Submission is completely free and online and the submission form can be accessed at this link:
Deadline for submission is midnight Sunday 15th May 2016.

Each May, Meath County Council Arts Office runs an extensive, creative Bealtaine Festival that celebrates creativity as we age.For 2016, the theme for the Bealtaine Festival is Iconic Citizens, which continues Bealtaine’s three-year exploration of Nationhood and Citizenship and specifically reflects on the first generations of citizens inhabiting the new Irish State.
To celebrate this, the Toradh Gallery will host a mixed media exhibition that captures the diverse and eclectic work that celebrates the visual creativity and talent amongst artists over 55 in Meath. The pieces were selected through an Open Call, where artists over 55 were invited to submit up to two pieces for consideration. Lynn McGrane, National Gallery of Ireland, curated the exhibition.
This exhibition will be held in the Toradh Gallery, Ashbourne Library and Cultural Centre from May 9th – June 3rd and will be officially opened by Jackie Maguire, Chief Executive, Meath County Council on Tuesday 17th May at 7pm.
